Checkers is easy to learn but difficult to truly master. In America, the game is typically played on an 8x8 board covered in tiles of alternating colors. Each player has twelve pieces. After you set your pieces up in three staggered rows, the game begins.

Each piece moves one tile diagonally. Your objective is to take all of your opponent’s pieces or to trap them so they run out of moves. You take an adjoining piece by jumping over it (diagonally) and landing on the empty space on the other side. If you make it all the way to the back row, your piece is now a “king,” meaning it can now move forward and backward.
